All timber shiplap cladding and linings will move with changes to the ambient humidity and weather conditions, and it is important to ensure boards are installed to allow for this movement.
All timber moves with the changes in climatic conditions, and seasoned or kiln dried cladding is no exception.
The PTI shiplap profile is set up to allow fast and easy installation, and to easily set the board gap from the front whilst fixing.
The correct installation gap needs to 1-3mm depending on the board width.
Using the locating line on the shiplap allows the installer to easily see from the front of the boards the gap between boards.
A steel ruler or gauge can then be used to maintain a consistent gap during installation that will allow the timber to move as needed.
If boards pushed up hard to locating line leaves little room for movement. THIS WILL NOT LET THE BOARDS MOVE MUCH AS THE HUMIDITY CHANGES.
